European Tourism Trends & Prospects is a series of quarterly reports that offer a concise analysis of key economic and tourism trends in Europe and in relevant outbound markets. Quarterly reports are meant to provide the know-how necessary to monitor the short-term development of European tourism.
International travel in Europe has moved above 2019 levels as we go into the second quarter of 2024. This webinar will investigate where this recovery is coming from and what destinations are lagging behind, as well as looking out towards the rest of this year as travel becomes more broad-based across the region. Additionally, STR (part of the CoStar Group) will be presenting the year-to-date developments in the hotel industry across Europe.

Chloe is a Senior Economist with Tourism Economics, specialising in European tourism forecast services. On top of forecasting, she takes a key role in European consultancy work including regular outputs for the ETC and STR. She previously worked on both the industry and macro services within Oxford Economics for seven years where she developed her skills in forecasting, modelling, data visualisation and bespoke consulting work.
Alex leads STR’s AM:PM platform and is focused on integrating the product into CoStar. He began his career in New York, gaining experience in fixed income with Lazard, Merrill Lynch, and Scotia Capital. He then moved into the hospitality industry when he joined Expedia’s sales and development team, working in both their New York and San Francisco offices. Alex subsequently moved to London for HotelTonight, with responsibility of managing partnerships with global brands and industry organizations. He joined STR in August 2016.
Menno van IJssel is currently Project Manager in the research department of the European Travel Commission (ETC), a non-profit organisation responsible for the promotion of Europe as a tourist destination in third markets. In that capacity, Menno works on various research projects identifying key trends and opportunities for European tourism. Projects range from the monitoring of the short-term rental market across Europe, to sustainable tourism indicators, to assisting in the development of ETC’s Quarterly Reports. His passion lies in understanding how people travel, where they go, and for what reasons.
