LONG-HAUL TRAVEL BAROMETER

Long-haul travel markets are a significant source of growth for European tourism. In 2015, China and the United States were at the forefront, having contributed positively to Europe’s +5% in international tourist arrivals. However, what are the expectations for Europe’s key long-haul markets in the near future?

Measuring travel sentiment sheds light on potential travellers’ dreams. The European Travel Commission, together with the European Tourism Association (ETOA) and Eurail Group G.I.E., has developed the Long-Haul Travel Barometer, a regular survey that monitors travel sentiment in Europe’s five key long-haul markets: Brazil, China, Japan, the Russian Federation and the USA.

Apart from respondents’ intention to travel to Europe, in the first edition of the Long-Haul Travel Barometer, we have also looked into the perceived impact of the Paris Attacks on long-haul travellers’ intention to visit Europe in 2016.

We have summarised the key results for 2016 in a brief infographic that you can download the full version here: Long-Haul Travel Barometer Edition 1/2016.
