ETC Snapshots is a series of reports on select travel segments and markets prepared by the ETC Executive Unit. These lean reports provide a quick overview of travellers’ characteristics, the likes and dislikes of their holiday experience and their satisfaction with Europe compared to competing regions. This report deals with the nature-active traveller. Adventure tourism has gained tremendous popularity over the last decade. Increasingly, travellers fervently looking for areas of natural beauty that provide conditions for adventure sports, outdoor experiences and nature-based activities combined with an authentic set of cultural assets. Adventure travel is regarded as one of the fastest growing categories of tourism. Furthermore, it attracts high-income travellers, supports local economies and encourages their sustainable development.
