European tourism demand held firm this summer in a volatile environment.
European tourism demand remained resilient over the summer. International tourist arrivals increased 3% compared to the same period in 2025, with the vast majority of destinations (80%) recording more foreign visits despite ongoing global uncertainty.
Northern Europe led regional growth, followed by Central & Eastern Europe which continued to attract travellers seeking value-for-money. Southern & Mediterranean Europe recorded more moderate growth, in line with the slower European performance.
Smaller and value-for-money destinations outpaced more established destinations, albeit from a lower base. Malta (+18%), Slovakia (+15%), Ireland (+13%), Poland (+11%), Romania and Montenegro (both +10%) recorded double-digit increases.
Established destinations recorded more moderate growth rates, with arrivals up 5% in Spain, +3 in France and 1% in Italy. In Cyprus (-7%), Middle East conflict-related flight disruptions and safety concerns following a drone incident, weighed on travel demand, despite a strong start to the year.
