European Travel Commission reopens Japan Chapter for further expansion

Mr Koichi Numata, Business Finland / Visit Finland Japan Representative, has been appointed as the chairperson of the European Travel Commission (ETC) ‘s newly launched Japan Chapter. The Chapter is ETC’s eyes and ears in the marketplace. Numata will consolidate ETC’s activities in Japan market and lead relationships with the local travel sector while navigating through the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Numata has over eighteen – years’ experience in the travel industry. Since 2002, he has been responsible for marketing of the Canadian Tourism Commission. Prior to his role in Visit Finland, he worked as a sales executive for 9 years in Jetstar Airways. Koichi has been working at Business Finland/Visit Finland Japan since 2018, driving new and repeat visitors to Finland from Japan. Koichi will consolidate the activities of ETC in Japan, whose role is to leverage European destinations’ promotional activities by setting up effective platforms for cooperative marketing, access to market intelligence, exchange of best practices, cooperation and relationships between the Japanese and the European travel and tourism industry.

ETC aims to further expand the view Japanese travelers have of European destinations, highlighting the incredible cultural and natural diversity of the continent. It is also important to restore the Japanese travelers’ confidence in international travel and that will be one of the immediate priorities as ETC relaunches itself in Japan. We hope to bring the inspiration, excitement and discoveries that gained through travels to the people of Japan.”
